Foundation for Unity of Religions and Enlightened Citizenship

A critical analysis from the Islamic Shari'y viewpoint

It is He who has sent His Messenger with Guidance and the Religion of Truth in order that He shows its superiority over all other religion, even if the idolaters detest it.

Foreward : FUREC & the World Scripture

Further proof substantiating FUREC’s dangerous intellectual usage of terms such as "Unity of Religions" "Enlightened Citizens" etc, adopted in its SSD (Surat Spiritual Declaration) & FUREC's Memorandum of Association are clear and articulate representations of a false ideology as commonly found in religions professed & practiced in India & in the world in general.

This dangerous ideology is something Jilani mia, & Mufti Moin Sambhali unsurprisingly never mention in their website and books, but the very thing that Hadrat Shaykh al Islam forewarned us of in his book 'Sahifa-e-Hidaya.'

Dr. Homi B. Dhalla [Founding member of FUREC & Apex Body] is proudly referring to the following World Scripture:

ORGANIZATION OF WORLD SCRIPTURE

The bulk of the material found in the World Scripture comes from the scriptures of the five major living world religious traditions: Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Chinese religion (Confucianism and Taoism). There are also a considerable number of texts from the smaller living religions: Judaism, Jainism, Sikhism, Shinto, and Zoroastrianism.

The texts in World Scripture have been deliberately restricted, wherever possible, to passages from scripture. This distinguishes it from topical anthologies of religious wisdom which draw on the writings of mystics, saints, and sages. Scripture may be regarded variously as direct revelation from God or as the distilled insights received by the founder and his disciples. In either case, it possesses a certain authority and priority as the fount of the religion. In scripture we grasp the freshness of the original revelation. Through constant liturgical use, scriptural texts are engraved in the hearts of believers. The laws in scripture provide the standard around which a religion elaborates its cultural norms. It is to scripture that believers turn for inspiration and revival in every age.

Finally, I wish to give grateful acknowledgment to the Reverend Sun Myung Moon, who first conceived the idea for World Scripture and commissioned its preparation. In his address to the first Assembly of the World's Religions in 1985, he called the religious leaders of the world to discover their common purposes and bonds of friendship with which to create an alliance of all the world's religions:

"As far as I know, God is not sectarian. He is not obsessed with minor details of doctrine. We should quickly liberate ourselves from theological conflict which results from blind attachment to doctrines and rituals, and instead focus on living communication with God. I think we urgently need to purify the religious atmosphere into one in which believers can have living faith and every soul can communicate with God. In God's parental heart and His great love, there is no discrimination based on color or nationality. There are no barriers between countries or cultural traditions, between East and West, North and South. Today God is trying to embrace the whole of humankind as His children. Through interreligious dialogue and harmony we should realize one ideal world of peace, which is God's purpose of creation and the common ideal of humankind."

World Scripture has been written to further this noble goal.

World Scripture

PROLOGUE
Many Paths To One Goal

  • The Truth in Many Paths

  • Tolerance and Respect for All Believers

One guiding principle behind World Scripture is that all religions are connected to the same Ultimate Reality and lead people toward a common goal. This is true even though the various religions make exclusive claims about themselves, sometimes asserting the uniqueness and incomparability of their God or ultimate principle. Nevertheless, in affirming the existence of Ultimate Reality or an ultimate principle, we assume that it can be only one, regardless of the various beliefs which people hold about it--be it described as one or many, impersonal or personal, absolute emptiness or absolute Being, and regardless of the name by which it is called.

Similarly, the goals of spiritual practice for each religion, while not identical, have much in common. Since the ideals imbued in human nature are universal, we may expect to find that people who have reached the goal, be it enlightenment, salvation, sanctification, self-realization, or liberation, indeed manifest the highest human qualities: love, compassion, wisdom, purity, courage, patience, righteousness, strength of character, calmness of mind, and inner joy. Regardless of religious belief, people who have realized such a goal inevitably impress others by their personal virtue. Ultimately, these goals converge and become one, inasmuch as they express the best of our common humanity.

This principle is neither a new idea nor the novel result of the interfaith movement. The scriptures of each religion contain passages which recognize that there are truths in other paths. They recognize that the God(s) worshipped by other faiths may be the same as their own God. They recognize that the teachings and practices of other faiths may be similar in many respects to their own teachings and practices. They also teach toleration and respect for righteous and sincere believers of other faiths. They condemn quarrels over doctrines for displaying egoism and enmity that have no place in the religious life. Some of these passages have been brought together in this chapter.

World Scripture

THE TRUTH IN MANY PATHS

This section gathers passages from various scriptures which affirm that others who do not share the faith of that scripture are also following the way of Truth. Thus Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism understand the various deities to be expressions of a single Absolute Reality, and the various paths to lead to one Supreme Goal. Judaism has the doctrine of the Noahic laws, God's revelation to all humankind through which non-Jews can be righteous before God. The Christian Bible contains passages affirming that God had intimated himself in the religion of the Greeks. Sikhism affirms the common spiritual origin of Islam and Hinduism. The Islamic scriptures affirm that Jews and Christians are "people of the book" who share the same God as the God of Muhammad. Furthermore, many religions teach that a nonbeliever, if he does righteousness, is acceptable before God and will receive a reward.

However, there are limits to such openness. Even if the goal is ultimately one, many interpreters of religion may consider their particular path as the best or only effective path to the goal. For example, although the Qur'an testifies to other scriptures as divinely inspired, a typical Muslim view is to regard them as having suffered corruptions and interpolations; the only accurate witness to those previous revelations is the testimony of the Qur'an itself. Christians may emphasize the uniqueness of God as revealed in Christ, and deny that the revelations of other faiths reach the essence of God's true being, even as they acknowledge that these scriptures have elements of the principles of truth, love, justice, wisdom, and morality common also to Christianity.

Then there is the problem of idolatry: when is another person's god truly the One God, and when is it a false idol? We remark that idolatry--and similarly the question of corrupt scripture--is expressing the negative judgment that certain aspects of religion are false because they are human creations which are elevated incorrectly to the status of absolutes: see Idolatry, pp. 403-07. But no genuine religion is entirely man-made. Every religion has led its sincere believers to transcendental knowledge and realization of Ultimate Reality. Could not doctrinal intolerance toward the claims of other religions itself be a form of idolatry, falsely absolutizing the beliefs of one's own group?

World Scripture

TOLERANCE AND RESPECT FOR ALL BELIEVERS

This section contains selected passages calling for tolerance and respect for believers of other religions, and for conscientious people generally. Believers are urged to treat everyone with equal respect, not to have a different standard of conduct for people of other faiths than for one's own community. Religious disputes and doctrinal conflicts are condemnable; they are often motivated by egoism disguised as piety, and by displaying enmity they do not give proper witness to one's faith. The polemicist betrays his ignorance: attached to his own partial viewpoint, he cannot see the possible validity of another's. Herein is included the famous parable, found in many sources, of the blind men and the elephant. It teaches the folly of regarding any single religious perspective as absolute and complete. Such is also the import of the Jain doctrine of Anekanta, which regards all disparate doctrines as complementary parts of a single whole.

World Scripture

ENLIGHTENMENT

Enlightenment means dispelling the darkness of ignorance. Enlightenment is the primary term used to describe the experience of salvation in Hinduism and Buddhism, yet the experience of enlightenment is common to most religions. According to the manner in which Reality is perceived in the different traditions, enlightenment may be either the intuitive grasping of inner wisdom, illumination by the truth of the Word, or direct apprehension of transcendent Reality. The true self, formerly obscured by false habits of thinking and vain desires, is suddenly revealed. The inner eye, which was blinded by defilements of worldly living, opens to a vision of the true Reality. From that moment life can never be the same, as the enlightened person begins to live by the knowledge he has acquired.

The first group of passages compares God or God's word to a light that shines into the soul. Second are passages which describe enlightenment as inner knowledge, opening the inner eye or the 'eye of the heart.' It is recognizing one's Original Mind, pp. 217-23. Third, we have passages on enlightenment as knowing God, the eternal source of truth. The concluding passage describes one experience of enlightenment: a sudden apprehension of a new gestalt, a quantum leap in thinking, a powerful conversion.

The Danger of FUREC

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem

Assalamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu

As-salatu As-salamu 'alayka Ya Rasul'Allah

It is incumbent upon all Muslims to expose the falsehood & deceit of those so called Muslims whoever or wherever they may be who are in the forefront to helping non-Muslims in their attempts to weaken Islam as a comprehensive way of life.

Organisations such as FUREC – as an alleged means to combat & confront terrorism & unite people of multi-faith background is merely a delusion & deliberate attempt to legitimise their own ends & their non-Islamic aims & objectives as clearly stated in FUREC’s constitution & official website. FUREC’s constitution, published literature, press coverage & information on its official website are all contrary to the unambiguous commands & principles of the Qur'an & Sunnah.

Jilani mia [JM] as a founding member & collaborator of FUREC, whether he accepts the following or not, its purpose is merely an attempt by the pagan hindu government in making the Qur’an & Sunnah appear irrelevant & ineffectual with modern times.

The principle purpose of this forum is not merely to expose the malice of those who wish to destroy Islam as a way of life & the hypocrisy of those so called Muslim dignitaries who are actively working alongside them, but rather also to suggest to sincere Muslims how they should Islamically & morally respond to the current situation following the guidance in the Noble Qur'an & the Prophetic Sunnah.

There are many wrongs, injustices, prejudices & hostilities directed towards Islam, which naturally make sincere Muslims frustrated & angry at the sheer scale & force of will displayed by the disbelieving community. At such times Muslims turn to the Qur'an for solace, for the reassurance of the values & narratives they cherish as beautifully expressed in it. Undoubtedly, the Qur'an is Divine Mercy, a means of healing for the hearts & minds of the believers. The Noble Qur'an is fore mostly 'Guidance'. We have in general lost the habit of reading the Qur'an as a guide to action, as a means to understand present realities & as a resource through which to shape a coherent strategy of response. As vicegerents of our Creator on earth, it is incumbent upon us to make the guidance of Islam an uncompromising reality in our lives.

The hidden agendas of such collaborative organisations as FUREC are to 'revise', 'modernise' & discredit shari'ah as time-bound & irrelevant to modern society. These are carefully planned attacks on the very foundation of Islamic civilisation. One will hear national & international politicians speaking of a changing world & Islam's alleged internal difficulties with modern 'norms & times'. The new crusade against Islam is refusing to promote Islam as anything other than an object of academic study without any personal commitment to Islam.

The disbelieving community for many centuries hiding behind the various faces of government/semi-government & academic institutions have been engaged to distort Islam in all its aspects - Qur'an, Sunnah, 'Aqidah, Shari'ah & Islamic Culture & Civilisation originating from them. The disbelieving community may not accept the buddhist doctrines or hindu philosophy but will still preserve a balanced, reflective attitude of mind with respect to those false systems. However, in the case of Islam, this balance is disturbed & an emotional bias creeps in.

The 'will' & 'intent' behind the deliberate distortion is to create revulsion against Islam in the hearts & minds of non-Muslims & to attempt to embarrass Muslims themselves about their beliefs, traditions & history, so as to cause Muslims to doubt, question themselves & ultimately lead to apostasy.

''Many of the People of the Book want to make you unbelievers after you have believed, through the envy from their own selves and after the Truth has been made clear to them……." [2:109]

The Muslim names as founders, trustees, patrons or mere consultants attached with organisations such as FUREC are merely planned & arranged to help legitimise their non-Islamic aims & cover, & to further deceive Muslims. Once Muslim Scholars/dignitaries names are successfully branded with their organisations, the collaborating Muslim Scholars/dignitaries, etc, are usually in a less authoritive position than the disbelievers & are rarely, if ever, present in the centres attending only ceremonial meetings, etc. Their role is merely to provide a cover for their self legitimacy & to establish the delusion of collaboration.

Amongst the duties of Muslim Scholars is to invite non-Muslims, especially the People of the Book to Islam & not to work alongside them in denigrating Islam:

"Say: O People of the Book, come to an agreement between us and you – that we shall worship none except Allah and that we shall associate no partner with Him and that none of us shall take others for lords besides Allah, then if they turn away, then say: ‘Be witnesses that we are Muslims [those who have surrendered to Allah]." [3:64]

It is prohibited in Islam to morally or physically assist such centres to further their activities & purposes. To do so is directly helping them to sustain their attack on Islam & to continue to ridicule the Qur'an & the Beloved Messenger, salla Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam.

"Those who choose disbelievers for their allies instead of believers – do they look for power at their hands? Surely, all power belongs to Allah. He has already revealed to you in the Book that, when you hear the revelations of Allah rejected and made fun of, you should not sit with them until they are in some other conversation. For surely, if you [did stay with them] you would be like them……" [4:139-140]

"O Believers do not take the Jews and Christians for allies. They are allies of each other. He among you who takes them for allies is of them [has become one of them]. Indeed, Allah does not guide those who do wrong." [5:51]

"O Believers do not choose My enemy and your enemy as allies. Do you offer them alliance when they disbelieve in the Truth that has come to you, [who were] expelling the Messenger and yourselves because you believe in Allah, your Lord? [Do not do so] if you have come forward to strive in My way and to seek My pleasure. Do you in secret show them friendship when I am perfectly aware of what you keep secret and what you make public? And whoever among you does this, truly he has strayed from the right path. If they have the upper hand over you [in your affairs] they will be your enemies and stretch out their hands and their tongues toward you with evil [purpose] – and they yearn that you should disbelieve." [60:1-2]

All of the above verses clearly tell us why Muslims should not make alliances with non-Muslims, i.e. because the disbelieving community hold intense enmity towards Islam, they ally with one another against Islam & the Muslims, they encourage & conspire ridicule of the Qur’anic verses & of the Person of the Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, they yearn for Muslims to become like them; adopt their way of life, then in belief or lack of it, conceptualising belief as matter of private or personal concern only.

"They yearn that you should disbelieve just as they disbelieve, so that you may be on the same level [as them]. So do not choose your allies among them ….. [4:89]

Alliance with the enemies of Islam is forbidden. Receiving Islam from them is also forbidden. Muslims may not learn Islam from non-Muslims. How can Muslims have non-Muslims as teachers, representatives or ally with them in organisations such as FUREC when not only do they not believe in Islam but are also hostile to it? How can the Muslim be guided by the misguided. Also, it is highly unlikely that 'extremists' or 'terrorists' [or their sympathisers] will withdraw from their struggle on account of FUREC’s aims & ambitions & slogans of 'Unity of Religions'. It’s more likely they'll be enraged & will fuel more hostilities as is evident already.

Once again the Noble Qur'an is very plain & clear:

"…….. they have no knowledge of it. They follow only a conjecture and surely a conjecture can never take the place of the Truth. So avoid him who runs from the remembrance of Us and who desires only the life of the world. That is the sum total of their knowledge. Surely your Lord is best aware of him who strays and He is best aware of him who goes right.” [53:28-30]

Muslims are required to be tolerant of the People of the Book, but are forbidden to give them loyalty, that is to help them as allies. No matter how much friendship a Muslim shows them, he will never get their approval or acceptance for him to remain a Muslim or to make a reality of the Islamic order. He will never prevent them from allying with each other in war & conspiracy against Islam. Whenever there is any challenge, dispute, confrontation or intellectual or physical battle against Islam, the People of the Book will always stand alongside with the atheists …..

The People of the Book today are like the Jews [in Madinah al-Munawwarah] who used to describe the mushrikin [polytheists] as better than the Muslims – And they say to the disbelievers:

"These [the idolaters] are more rightly guided than the believers." [4:51]

And, would help the mushrikin against the Muslim community in Madinah al-Munawwarah & gave them substantial assistance. The People of the Book are those who waged the Crusades against the Muslims for two centuries. It is they who committed the atrocities in al-Andalus [Spain]. It is they who, in collaboration with atheist communists made the Arab Muslims refugees in Palestine & established Jews in their place. There is no need to mention the oppressions & hostilities facing the Muslims of today. The Sacred texts clearly distinguish between tolerance & loyalty as allies. Those Muslims who believe contrary to this are in error both in their understanding of the meaning of the din & in their understanding in the meaning of tolerance. Tolerance is in personal inter-relations & neither in matters of faith ['aqidah] nor in social-political order. The tolerance of Islam is also expressed in the Muslims’ not coercing them to accept Islam [that is, in leaving them to follow their din].

It is also evident that working with or allying with pagan organisations or any other non-Muslim organisation places Muslims & their works under a number of constraints which make it conform to a non-Muslim ethos. This can inevitably put Muslims in a position of inferiority thus compromising Islam & presenting Islam in an apologetic manner. FUREC’s constitution & the general published material needs no critical examination to prove to sincere Muslims FUREC does not have the interests of Muslims in mind & that it most certainly illustrates working against the interests of Islam in general & of Muslim revival in particular.

The Qur'an declares that:

"……Allah will not give the disbelievers any [right of] way over the believers." [4:141]

Jilani mia (JM) & his advocates cannot claim ignorance of what Islam enjoins & what it forbids! Even if we accord to JM the best of motives for what he co-founded & did, it cannot make what he did right. JM was obliged as a Muslim spiritual guide with many mureeds to take heed of the internal demands of his Scholarly elders who were well aware of the dangers & conspiracies concealed behind FUREC. JM was given advice & judgement according to the Qur'an & Sunnah. JM made an erroneous decision to continue with FUREC for whatever reason which he alone will be held accountable to answer on the Day of Reckoning. His decision & judgement was, by the Qur’an & Sunnah, false judgement, a grave surrender of his responsibility in favour of a slavish submission to FUREC & its conspirers.

The Qur'an al kareem says:

"Convey to the hypocrites the news that for them there is a painful doom – those who choose disbelievers for their allies instead of believers! Do they look for Power at their hands when surely all power belongs to Allah? [4:138-9]

The relationship between those who ally with the disbelievers is not one of equals but of master & servant. The psychology of willing servitude to human masters is such that, inevitably, the servants do more to ingratiate themselves with their masters, more even than is asked, becoming ever more eager to please. In the end, they not only betray their religion, their nation, but gradually acquire the habit of vilifying both religion & nation by word & deed & lose all sense of judgement & decency until; they become the source of contempt in the world.

There is a powerful tendency for the wrong-doers & the corrupt to be attracted to one another so that they flock supporting each other in their wrong-doing & corruption. This condition is described in the Qur'an:

"Now We have set you on a clear road of authority, so follow it and do not follow the caprices [ahwa'] of those who do not know. Surely they can do nothing to help you with Allah; and surely the wrong-doers, they are allies of each other, whereas Allah is the ally of those who have taqwa." [45:18-19]

"Do they think that because We have provided them with wealth and sons, We hasten to them with good things? No! But they do not perceive." [23:55-6]

"Then when they forget that of which they had been reminded, We opened to them the gates of all [good] things until even as they were rejoicing in what they were given, We seized them suddenly and they were dumb struck! Thus of the people who did wrong, were the last remnant cut off…" [6:44-5]

"Surely those who turn back after the guidance has been expounded to them are seduced by Satan and it is he who controls them. That is because they say to those who hate what Allah has revealed: 'We will obey you in some matters'. And Allah knows their secret deliberations. How then when the Angels gather them, striking their faces and backs! That will be because they followed after what angers Allah and because they hated what pleases Him. On account of that, He has made their actions in vain. Do those whose hearts are sickened suppose that Allah will not bring to light their hatred." [47:22-9]

At the same time the Qur'an assures Muslims not to be intimidated by the apparent power of the enemies of Islam nor by their seeming to be so united in their opposition to Islam. They seek to wage war & destruction from positions they think are impregnable. In reality, they are weak & divided amongst themselves & their modes of thinking lack true discernment:

"They will not fight against you in a body save in well-fortified places or from behind walls. Their enmity amongst themselves is very great. You think of them as a unified body whereas their hearts are at odds [with one another]. That is because they are people who lack intelligence." [59:14]

The circumstances that Muslims presently find themselves in, the odds against them, enemies within & without – all these are tests & proofs of the quality of belief. For it is not sufficient for believers to claim, 'We believe', and then suppose that the claim of belief would not be put to test:

"Do people assume that they will be left [to live in ease] because they say 'We believe', and will not be tested with tribulations?" [29:2]

Inter Religious Festivals

Project 1: Celebration of Inter-Religious festivals

Every month in all parts of India there can be a multi-religious gathering to convey the core message attempted in the prayer of peace and about the basic truths contained in various religions. Such a prayer should be preceded by prayers from all religions practiced in that part of the country by respective religious and spiritual leaders in the presence of the people. Each month the day selected could be a holy day from one religion: Islam, Hindu, Christianity, Sikh, Parsi, Jain, Buddhist etc. Regular conduct of such meetings by all religious leaders and people from different religions respecting holy days of other religions will send a powerful message. If possible such gatherings can take place at the religious places where all persons from other religions also can gather on that day. People should also exchange pleasantries and sweets during these meetings, as is the practice in some parts of the country where unity of minds prevails. In addition, in order to spread the message of equality to everybody on that day a ‘langar’ (community kitchen and eating) can be arranged so that all people eat common food sitting side by side.

How to organize these? We believe that, if all the religious and spiritual groups build strong connectivity between their own beautiful islands of happiness and solace, it is possible to turn these monthly meetings into mass movements for respecting each other’s rituals, ways of life or view points. It will bring harmony and love. Peace and happiness will follow.

FUREC Press Release

Those who fell for the deceit of Jilani Mia or believed him when he said that FUREC was created ONLY for dealing with the 'common issues of the nation' have been very kindly given more evidence to reconsider their positions which is attached below in the form of a press release from the President of India website .

As you will see, everything our Shaykhs have said is true and a slap in the face of those ignoramuses who doubted this even for one moment - that this organisation is absolutely and without doubt un-Islamic and a danger to Muslims and their faith.

First we had multi religious prayers and then the Presidents Peace Prayer which has now been turned into a pop song!! Whatever next from Jilani Mia's friends .....?

See below:

Let's take vows to serve humanity, says President

By Our Staff Reporter

The President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, with religious leaders at the launch of the Foundation for the Unity of Religions and Enlightened Citizenship at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday.

NEW DELHI, JUNE 15. The President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, today laid emphasis on the need for enlightened citizenship in which people undertook "service to humanity as service to God." He said this could happen when all devotees took a vow to educate students, plant trees and treat male and female children equally.

This way, the citizens could feel proud that they were involved in nation-building as the "small vows" they took would have a tremendous impact on society by setting in motion a process of change. He was speaking at the launch of the `Foundation for the Unity of Religions and Enlightened Citizenship' at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, which was attended by various religious leaders.

"Over 500,000 people of various religions visit major places of worship every day. Some vows may be displayed within the premises of these religious institutions prominently and devotees can take any of them as thanksgiving to God," he said.

Among the vows suggested by the President are: each devotee would pledge to educate five children or play a crucial role in activating one pond in his or her neighbourhood or nearby village; remove enmity within his family and withdraw court cases; plant five fruit-bearing trees; not succumb to the temptation of addictive substances and treat male and female children equally. "Even if 10 per cent of the devotees take up any one of these vows, I am sure there will be a tremendous impact on society," Mr. Kalam said.

Recalling his visits to several holy places across the country, he said: "Wherever I went, I found that knowingly or unknowingly, integration of religions has taken place. There is a fabric of connectivity among the people." A billion people with multi-cultural, multi-lingual and multi-religious backgrounds were staying in unity which was, in fact, the "core competence" of the country.

With the launch of the Foundation, the vision of the Surat Spiritual Declaration (SSD), signed nine months ago, had been translated into reality, he said. Translations of the SSD in 15 languages were presented to the President.

The SSD, signed by spiritual leaders of all religions in the presence of the President, had been the basis for a number of projects to create "enlightened citizens," said L.M. Singhvi, Chancellor of the Jain Vishwa Bharati Institute in Rajasthan and former Indian High Commissioner to Britain.

In a brief message, Jain spiritual leader Acharya Mahaprajna called for reflection on the link between religion and economics, which could lead to the nation's development. "Economics and religion seem contradictory, but I do not think so. They influence and solve each other's problems."

APJ Kalam & Apostasy

Another Campaign of Ideological Apostasy Initiated

By Jaame Noor

By taking advantage of the Gujarat riots & sectarian situation of the country, the President of India, Dr. A.P.J. 'Abdul Kalam held a meeting on the 15th of October, 2003 in Surat, Gujarat. In this special meeting, multi-faith leaders of the country; Islam, Hindu faith, Christian faith, Sikh faith, were invited to participate. In this meeting Dr. 'Abdul Kalam officiated the "Surat Spiritual Declaration" in which [some aims & objects include:] Unity of Religions, Uniting of religions, respect of religions, acceptance of religions, joint multi-faith prayers & multi-faith common kitchens & joint celebration of multi-faith festivals & rituals, writing of books on wahdat e adyan [Unity of Religions] & disseminating the message of Universal Truths & Values in all religions was suggested & upon which leaders of all religions including Muslim leaders sealed their approval with their signatures announcing the second renaissance of [Akbar's] Din e Ilahi. After which the leaders of all [Indian] religions popularising the SSD & ceasing religious dominance & identity from all of the country's citizens deliberated upon establishing a Society to unite them in a National stream. Consequently, in June 2004 a Society was practically established in New Delhi, the name by mutual opinion was agreed: Foundation For Unity of Religions & Enlightened Citizenship, in short referred to as FUREC.

At this moment the SSD & FUREC's Memorandum are before us. Before we examine the SSD or the aims & objects of the Memorandum, let's see what the position is of the one who officiated the SSD from a religious perspective & through which circumstances [background] it developed [surfaced]? One's upbringing at home & local environment & circumstances are a mirror of man's thoughts, ideas & personal behaviours & attitudes. With this in mind, if we were to reflect on Dr. 'Abdul Kalam, then we will not find it difficult at all in understanding the SSD or the aims & objects of FUREC's Memorandum.

At this moment I have in my review Dr. 'Abdul Kalam's biography "Parwaz", which he authored a few years ago. Observe some excerpts from his biography void of our comments:

  1. "We both would leave for a long evening walk, starting from Music street & heading towards the sandy coast of the island. During which Jalal ud-Din & I would converse on spiritual topics. The atmosphere of Ramishoram would help in this discussion with the large number of visitors coming here. Our first encampment would be at the splendid Mandir [Hindu temple] of Bhagwan Siva. Like any of the many visitors arriving from the very distant corners of the country we too would circulate [do tawaf] of the Mandir with the same devotion & would feel inside us a wave of energy."

[Parwaz, Page: 7, Matbu'ah Qawmi Council bara e furugh Urdu, Delhi]

  1. "I would look at Jalal ud-Din [brother-in-law] with astonishment & then would look towards the large crowd of visitors around the Mandir who would bathe in the sea [to cleanse from sins], fulfil rites & sing hymns, with the zeal of respect for the unknown being whom we call the transcendent Omnipotent, I never doubted this that the worship conducted in the Mandir would likewise similarly reach its objective destination as does the worship performed in the Mosque." [Ibid Page:7]

  1. "During the annual festival of Shri Sita Ram kalyanum, our household would organise boats in which was a special mount so that statues of Bhagwan could be carried from the Mandir to the wedding halls. This wedding hall was between a reservoir which was called Ram Tirith & was near to our home. My mother & grandmother would tell the children of our household incidents of Rama & the Prophet, salla Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam, at bedtime." [Ibid Page:10]

Dr. 'Abdul Kalam demonstrates enlightened thought & inner enlightenment as he broadens the canvas of Islamic values & worship by transcending to worship & idolatry in the court of the Mandir & whose ears are accustomed to hear events from Islamic Sacred history & stories of Sanskrit Gods. After [understanding] this we must not hesitate in arriving at this conclusion that he [Dr. Abdul Kalam] is preparing to forge Indian Muslims in which kind of fiery casting? The personal & private comments made by 'Abdul Kalam [in his self authored biography] elucidating upon his beliefs & theological thinking & also after knowledge of his family circumstances does it leave any room or opportunity for any kind of forged interpretations that in the mentioned "Unity of Religions" of his SSD requires the inconvenience of hadhaf & idhafah? Or to suggest "Unity of Religions" implies "Unity of followers of Religions" thereby trampling over the true thoughts & mind of 'Abdul Kalam?

Acharya Shri Mahaprajna

Acharya Shri Mahaprajna,
along with APJ Kalam and Jilani mia are the main founders of FUREC

Speech of Acharya Shri Mahaprajna on the Conference ‘Unity of Minds’

15.10.2003

The themes of awakening spiritual consciousness and development of moral values can serve as an universal platform for all religions; from this platform, all religions can proclaim the message of unity.

Harmony among sects
There need not be any problem with the fact that the platform for religious worship and devotion are different for each religion. The distance between religious traditions, however, may exist on the basis of rituals and customs. But if we emphasize freedom of thought and devotion to divinity then in spite of this distance, we can come closer, sit together on the platform of spirituality and morality, and work together. If we can develop this thought, then a new sun will rise over our world.

Why this need for moral values?
In the world of religion, moral values are not being given adequate importance. Therefore, even a religious man does not hesitate to indulge in evil deeds. In the world of religion, spirituality is also not being given adequate importance. Therefore, the dream of human unity is not being realized and no refinement is evolving in human relationships.

Spiritualizing religion
Spirituality is the path of purity of consciousness. The awakening of a consciousness, that develops because of sublimation of attachment and aversion. This results in

1. Appeased mental states - experience of rea1 peace
2. Freedom from attachment to worldly pleasures
3. Compassion

These three are the prime outcomes of religion.
Only such a religion can be beneficial to man and society . To attain this, it is necessary to develop

1. Practice of concentration
2. Development of the power of strong resolve
3. Practice of restraining emotions

None of these three spiritual strengths are bound to any particular sect. Therefore, if endorsed by all religions, they can constitute the Universal Platform.

Spiritual-cum-scientific personalities
Our fundamental goal should be to develop a spiritual-cum-scientific personality. A mere spiritual person cannot present spiritual thoughts in contemporary language, cannot influence trends of the age. On the other hand, a mere scientific person can neither rise above the limitations of matter and come into contact with the consciousness nor can he offer solution to problems that crop up only because of anomaly in consciousness.
Only that person can be a truly spiritual one who has learnt to control his emotions. If even religious people do not practise control over their emotions, then it is indeed a matter for surprise. To control emotions, mere knowledge of philosophy is not enough. It is essential to know the rules governing emotions. In this context it is a1so important to know the scientific principles underlying physiology , psychology , bio-chemistry or endocrinology and other bodily-related sciences.

Violence is increasing these days. Its prime reason is volatile emotions. Without bringing about a balance between emotional equanimity and spiritual development, religions cannot be spiritualized nor can success be achieved in controlling violence. For the upliftment of humanity and for peaceful co-existence, it is very important to develop a system to control emotions.

The President's vision of 'India in 2020' is not based on1y on economic or business development. It can be realized on1y with the support of spiritual development. It becomes the immediate duty of religious leaders to devote their energies to bring about spiritual development. I firmly believe that this dialogue between religious leaders and a spiritually inclined scientist President, will be successful in resolving many national problems. It will show the path for solving the problem of global peace.

Jilani Mia

Details of  why Jilani Mia's own khalifa signed a written declaration against J.Mia in South Africa after he witnessed one big lie too many.

Jilani Mia has publically gone on record in front of many witnesses that during a meeting with Hadrat Ghazi al Millat in South Africa, he (Jilani Mia) led the prayers for Asr salaah in Lodium, South Africa & that Hadrat Ghazi al Millat PRAYED BEHIND HIM. This is another sad & desperate attempt by Jilani mia to deceive, and to win public favour by discrediting the Ulema-e-Haq. What Jilani mia didnt bank on, was that his own khalifa in South Africa (one of the witnesses present) a Sayyad Yusuf Sahib would give a signed declaration saying the complete opposite. Here is an English translation of his declaration.

BISMILLAHI RAHMANIR RAHIM

On 21 April 2006 in Lodium, South Africa in Mr Abdul Haq Sahib’s house, on the attempts of some people Mowlana Sayyad Muhammad Hashmi and Mowlana Sayyad Muhammad Jilani were brought together so that the demands of Sharia were completed and the winds of unity once again begin to move.

During the course of the discussions when it was time for the ‘Asr’ prayer Mowlana Sayyad Muhammad Hashmi rose from the meeting place and went into another room and performed his prayer alone.

Mowlana Jilani Miya Sahib performed his prayer separately and thereafter the dialogue commenced. This dialogue in the end proved to be of great benefit.

Mowlana Sayyad Muhammad Jilani promised that as soon as he returned to India he will ensure that legally the amendment is made to the un-Islamic aims and objectives, projects and programmes of ‘FUREC’; and if he is unable to do this he will resign from FUREC.

On listening to this all the people were moved with happiness. And on leaving; in accordance with the practices in Africa people shook hands and embraced, and also all people present shed tears. And Mowlana Sayyad Muhammad Hashmi, Mowlana Sayyad Muhammad Jilani and Mufti Irshad could not stop their tears.

I am certain that either there will be an amendment in the constitution of FUREC by the end of 2006 or Mowlana Sayyad Muhammad Jilani will resign and this unwanted issue under Sharia will indeed Allah willing come to an end.

I Sayed Yusuf hereby state that I was present during the above discussion which is based upon truth.

Signed: Sayed Yusuf – 5/5/2006

Wahiduddin’s message to his Hindu brothers

Mawlana Wahiduddin khan also a founding member of FUREC refers to hindu’s as his brothers in the article below. Such statements are a direct consequence of transgressing the bounds of Shari’ah by befriending & associating with pagans & disbelievers.

Invitation to our Hindu brethren

And the man who believed said: "O my people! Follow me, I will guide you to the way of Right conduct. O my people! The Life of this World is but a (quick passing) enjoyment, and verily, the Hereafter, that is the Home that will remain forever. Whosoever does an evil deed, will not be requited except the like thereof, and whosoever does a righteous deed, whether male or female, and whosoever is a true believer, such will enter Paradise, where they will be provided without limit.

And O my people! How is it that I call you to salvation while you call me to the Fire. You invite me to disbelieve in Allah, and to join partners in worship with Him, of which I have no knowledge, And I call you to the All Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving. No doubt, you call me to (worship) one who cannot grant (me) my request in this world or in the Hereafter. And our return will be to Allah. And the transgressors, they shall be the dwellers of the Fire! And you will remember what I am telling you, and my affair I leave it to Allah. Verily, Allah is the All-Seer of (His) slaves. (The Qurán 40: 37-43)

The Hindu Scriptures also preached 'One God'

Answers to Questions/Misconceptions of Hindus

Come Let us Reason Together

The Hindu scriptures also preached 'ONE GOD'

Hinduism, as most Hindus would say, is not a religion but a "Dharma" and a Culture. The Vedas, the Upanishads, the Puranas, the Brahmanas Granth are considered to be the holy scriptures, most sacred being the Vedas. Also there is the Bhagavada Gita, the Mahabharata and the Ramanayan.

The degeneration of any society starts with becoming heedless to the guidance of God and falling prey to our own whims and desires. This eventually may lead to the degeneration of the concept of God itself. The worship of innumerable Gods in Hindu society is a degeneration of the message of God and in stark contrast to the oneness of God preached in the Hindu Holy Scriptures Vedas and Upanishads. A few examples from these scriptures reveal that they also preach Oneness of God, which is exactly the same truth which was conveyed by God through His final messenger Muhammad (There is no god, but God).

"There is only one God, worship Him" (Rig Veda, Vol. 6, Hymn 45 vs 16 )

"Do not worship any one beside Him" (Rig Veda Bk. 8, Hymn 1, Vs 1)

"God is only one, - not a second"- (Chandogya Upanishad Ch. 6, Section 2, verse 1).

"na tasya pratima asti
"There is no image of Him." [Yajurveda 32:3]

Consider the following expositions about the true concept of God from the Hindu scriptures.

Concept of God in Hinduism by Dr. Zakir Naik

On the Belief of the Hindus in God - Al Beruni (AD 1030)

From the Islamic point of view, the message of Unity of God was being conveyed down through ages via chosen messengers to mankind. Allah says in the Holy Quran that each tribe was sent a messenger and a guide to convey this universal message of Unity of God. For more articles, please visit the section Who is Allah ?

We thus invite our Hindu brethren to return to the worship of the One true God as reminded to us by God through His last and final messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him). The biggest injustice (which is also the biggest lie) which we humans can commit is to say that there are other gods as partners to the only One God. Proclaiming that there is no god besides the One God of all is what God wants to hear from us in words and deeds and this is the true step towards honesty and justice to ourselves and to society around us.

The religion of the 'surrender to the one true God' - Islam, is the only path which God has chosen for mankind and is thus the only way to achieve brotherhood and unification of mankind and for salvation in the everlasting life after death. Worshipping others besides God does not please God, rather it is an act of disobedience to God and a sign of arrogance. By accepting this call of Islam, our Hindu brethren will only be returning to God's original religion for humanity, as we understand was also the original call of the Hindu dharma.

Prophet Muhammad prophesized in Hindu scriptures

The advent of the last prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was prophesized in previous scriptures by earlier prophets. A study of the Vedas reveals the message of Unity of God. That Hindus of today worship a number of Gods or incarnations is quite contrary to the Vedic teachings which professes Oneness of God. Infact, it is very easy to observe that the varied forms in which Hindus worship God are nothing but the different "attributes" of Allah mentioned in the Qur'aan. Prophesies of the advent of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is found in the Vedic literature and is the topic of the links below.

Wahi'uddin's attack on Sufi’s & ‘Ilm at-Tasawwuf

Maulana Wahiduddin Khan’s attack on Sufi’s & ‘Ilm at-Tasawwuf

Distinguishing Islam in comparison to other faiths

The Religion of Islam
[ Maulana Wahiduddin Khan ]

The major religions of the world can be divided into two broad categories—the Aryan and the Semitic, with Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism in the first and Judaism, Christianity and Islam in the second. So far as their theological aspects are concerned, there is a difference between these two kinds of religions. While the Aryan religions are basically philosophy based, the Semitic religions are revelation based. The former represent the culmination of the philosophical pursuit of truth by the great minds of the world. In the quest for reality, meditation and contemplation brought these saintly souls to the conclusions which gave rise to the principal, organized religions of the eastern hemisphere.

The creeds of the Semitic religions on the other hand, are based on divine revelation. That is, God chose a series of Semites to be His apostles and then imparted to them His commandments, frequently in the form of Scriptures, through His angels. These messengers were not only the bearers of divine scriptures but also their interpreters. It was these revelations and their divinely inspired interpretations which provided the fundamentals of the Semitic religions as they exist today. The basic difference in respect of beliefs of the Aryan and Semitic religions can be briefly described in terms of monism and monotheism respectively.

Although both traditions—monism and monotheism—have the idea of God in common, there are fundamental differences in their conceptualization of God. In the Aryan tradition, God is an all-pervasive force rather than an independent reality. Monism posits the totality of a single reality, with all the diverse phenomena of the natural world seen as different manifestations of the same reality, according to this concept, therefore, there is no real difference between the creator and the creature. Thus in monistic theorizing, the concept of an individual, personal God does not exist.

In Semitic religions, particularly in Islam, the concept of God is entirely based on monotheism. This concept can also be termed dualism, that is, the Creator and the creature, in their nature are completely different from one another. God has a real and eternal existence. As the Creator of all things, he is distinct as an entity from all that He has created. His creatures in their seemingly independent existence totally depend upon the will of God. The sole possessor of all power, God has created man to live for a specific period of time, during which he is sent into the world to be tested. It is this concept of the Creator as totally distinct from creature, which sets the Semitic religions apart from the Aryan.

The philosophy of Islam is explicitly that of monotheism. It is true that the Sufi system has, to a great extent, incorporated monistic concepts. This is in actual fact, a deviation from the original and real Islam. It is therefore held by the majority of Islamic scholars to be an incorrect interpretation, not truly representative of Islam. Other presentations of Islam also figure in the books produced in the later period of Islam. But all of these, based as they are on personal interpretations, do not have the status of sacred books. In Islam, it is only the Qur’an and Sunnah (the Prophet’s words and deeds) which enjoy the status of the only authentic sources, and it is to them that we must turn if we are to have a true appreciation of the essence of Islam.

The mainstay of Islam is its monotheism—tawhid—that is, belief in the oneness of God in the complete sense of the word. God is One. He has no partner. He created all things and has complete control over the universe. We should serve Him and submit to Him alone. In Him should we repose our hopes and to Him should we pray. Though He cannot be seen, He is so close to us that He hears and answers us when we call upon Him.

The distinctive aspect of this monotheism is that no intermediary link exists between the Creator and the creature. By remembering Him, any individual at any point in time may, quite independently, establish contact with God. There is no need for any go-between. Indeed belief in an intermediary link with God is alien to the Islamic religious system. Called shirk (associating others with God) it is deemed to be an unpardonable offence.

According to the Qur’an God in Islam is not a symbol, but a reality. God has not been conceived of as a kind of working hypothesis on which to found a religious system. On the contrary, God in Islam is a Personality. He has a real and independent existence. He is alive and self-sustaining, self-perpetuating. He is near us; He cares for us; He hears and sees. He has knowledge. He takes decisions. He rewards and punishes. He is the Controller and Sustainer of human history.
